How to set up MetVPN
MetVPN is a no-logs VPN with 93 server locations in 54 countries. One subscription works on up to 10 devices. This guide takes you from ordering to your first connection in about ten minutes.
You need: a MetVPN subscription (plans from $2.50 a month), and a device running Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, or Fire TV / Android TV.
1. Choose a plan and order
- Open the MetVPN page and pick a billing period: monthly, yearly or two years. The price you see is the price you pay.
- On the order page, choose your VPN username. This is the name you will type into the VPN app. Use 3 to 20 lowercase letters, numbers, underscores or hyphens. It is separate from your account email.
- Press Continue to Review & Complete.
- Create a new account, or choose Existing Customer and sign in. Then choose a payment method; the available methods are shown at checkout.
- Accept the terms and complete the order. Every plan has a 30-day money-back guarantee; see the refund policy.
Your VPN account is created automatically once the payment goes through.
2. Find your VPN username and password
- Sign in to your MetWeb dashboard.
- Open Manage VPN in the left menu and select your MetVPN service.
- Your username and password are shown on that page. If the password is hidden, press the eye button to show it.
Your VPN login is not your dashboard login. To change your VPN password, press Change Password on the same page and choose a new one of 8 to 64 characters. The change takes effect at once, so you will need to enter the new password on every device where you use MetVPN.
3. Install the app
Download the MetVPN app for your device:
| Device | What you get | |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Installer (.exe) | Download |
| macOS | Installer (.dmg) | Download |
| Linux | Installer (.run) | Download |
| iPhone and iPad | From the App Store | Download |
| Android | APK file, install it yourself | Download |
| Fire TV and Android TV | APK file, install it yourself | Download |
Always use the links on this page or on the MetVPN page: they always point to the current version. On Android and Fire TV / Android TV the app may come as an APK file that you install yourself; if so, your device may ask you to allow installs from your browser.
4. Connect
- Open the MetVPN app and sign in with your VPN username and password from step 2.
- Choose a server. A server close to you is usually the fastest.
- Press Connect. When the app shows that you are connected, your whole device uses the VPN, not just your browser.
Choosing a protocol (Windows, macOS and Linux apps): open the app's settings and look for the protocol options (they may be under an Advanced tab). WireGuard is the modern default; OpenVPN works over UDP or TCP. On Windows and macOS there is also Stealth mode, which wraps OpenVPN in an extra layer that can help on networks that block VPN traffic. Stealth is not available on phones, Linux or TV.
Frequently asked questions
Does the VPN only protect my browser?
No. When you connect to a MetVPN server, your whole internet connection goes through it, and your public IP address and location are masked. That applies to every app on the device that uses the internet.
Does MetVPN keep logs?
MetVPN runs on a no-logs policy: it does not store the websites you visit, your DNS lookups, or the content of your traffic.
How many devices can I use?
Up to 10 devices on one subscription.
Is P2P and torrenting allowed?
Yes, P2P is allowed on MetVPN servers.
Which browser should I use?
Any current browser works, including Firefox, Safari, Brave and Chrome. The VPN protects the whole device, so the browser does not matter.
How can I make my connection faster?
Your VPN speed depends mostly on your own internet connection. A VPN cannot make a slow connection faster. To get the most out of it, connect to a server near you, and in the desktop app try UDP instead of TCP in the protocol settings.
I cannot connect. What should I check?
- Check that you are using your VPN username and password (shown on the Manage VPN page), not your dashboard login.
- If you recently changed your VPN password, use the new one on every device.
- Try another server: the one you chose may be busy or under maintenance.
- Make sure you have the latest app version from the download links above.
- Some networks (hotels, workplaces, schools, some countries) block VPN traffic. Try another network, or Stealth mode on Windows and macOS.
If it still does not work, open a ticket and tell us your device, app version and what you see.
Will MetVPN work in countries that block VPNs, such as China?
We cannot promise it. Some networks identify and block standard VPN traffic. Stealth mode on Windows and macOS can help on some networks, but no VPN gets through every firewall. If you are travelling to a place that restricts VPNs, install and test MetVPN before you go, because download and sign-up pages are often blocked once you are there.
